Placeholder for September 27 meditation … to be updated on October 28, 2021.
I love the story of Abigail. Surely she must have had an unhappy, probably abusive marriage, with Laban. From the food she was able to quickly prepare, to take to David’s troops, it is evident she was a hard worker, who was prepared for potential large gatherings, and she managed her resources well. It can be assumed she was liked and respected, by Laban’s household, as no one told him what his wife was doing. She was brave, resourceful, level-headed, even shrewd, in a good way. Despite Laban’s foolishness, she told him, perhaps as he nursed a hangover, the truth about her interactions with David. Natalie could have easily killed her. He didn’t question her words, or that she capably carried out the delivery of food to David. And God rewards Abigail for herbcourage and upright character, by allowing her to become David’s wife, rather then live out her life with Laban. Granted, David had other wives, and much drama would follow, but I would guess Abigail minded her own business and made the best of her circumstances. Perhaps a lesson, in a tough spot, is not just to pray for the Lord’s guidance and help, but to look around and say, “What can I do, to make this situation better, with the resources I already have?”
Love that question you pose at the end! “What can I do, to make this situation better, with the resources I already have?”
