Hi, I’m Kirsty, your host and friend for reading through the Bible in 2021 via this website, Reading the Bible with a Friend.

I have wanted to write devotional messages for many, many years. In the summer of 2020 I developed a plan to write introductions to a year’s worth of days reading the Bible. (A few years ago I did the YouVersion “Bible in One Year with Nicky Gumbel” plan and I really liked that format, especially since so many devotionals focus only on a few verses.) This has been challenging to do on my own, but a good friend offered to help by reading the devotionals as I write them — reading them not as an editor, but as a reader. And that’s how this website was born.

I grew up in what I call a “semi-Christian” home. My mother was a believer, but my father did not have an active faith. He supported my mother, though, and made sure that all of us were raised in the church. I made my own profession of faith in high school. That was many years ago now (1978!), so I have been a believer for a long time. I have gone through ups and downs, and periods of great strength versus periods of great dryness where it seemed like I would never get out of the wilderness.

Throughout it all, it has been my great desire to learn wisdom. I pray the Holy Spirit will use me and my experiences to bless you in the meditations that accompany these readings.

I love photography!

These are a few of my latest Instagram photos. 🙂

Hobbies

Besides photography, I’m actually a genealogy nut and enjoy researching family history. (I have a completely different website for that!) No, I’m not Mormon. I just like puzzles and filling in the blanks, and I discovered that genealogy can be completely addictive. 😀

Enjoying a socially-distanced Thanksgiving!

This photo is from November 2020 and is probably one of the most recent photos I have of myself. There’s another photo you’ll see that shows up on comments and on my profile page. One of these days I may actually get another professional portrait done….

I’m not a gardener…

But I do love flowers! All of the roses on this website were photographed in late Summer 2020 on the grounds of Mukilteo Presbyterian Church.

Since I took the photos myself, I don’t have to worry about any copyright issues. 🙂

Want to join me?

It’s easy to get started. You can download a copy of the year’s reading list from the “Reading Plan” page, or you can simply wait for each day to see what the readings are. Please consider joining me even if for only part of the year or if you’re not able to do all the readings. Thank you!
