  • I’m not sure why it was apparently such an offensive request, that Adonijah be given Abishag as his wife. Often, women were given to others when their husband’s died, though Abishag hadn’t been David’s wife, and assumedly was still a virgin. But clearly, the request was inappropriate and struck a chord in Solomon, as Adonijah lost his life, following the request. For Abishag, it did save her from being a pawn of men, who was only being viewed for her beauty and what she could give. It is a blessing, that in the New Testament, we see Jesus set an example of treating women with more respect and value.
