Meditation

Today I’m grateful for the sound of a cat’s purr.
Hezekiah’s life shows how we can vascilate between seeking the Lord and only thinking of what affects us. When he received a letter, he took it to the temple, spread it before the Lord, seeking what God had to say. I love the image of laying everything out before God, and then listening. But later, when he was told he’d been given 15 more years of life, but that the leaders after him would stray, from the Lord, and the people suffer, he responded selfishly. Perhaps he figured it was no use worrying what happened after him, as the calamity had already been foretold. But the scripture seems to make it noteworthy that Hezekiah only cared about the extra 15 years he would live. He could have used that time to teach his sons and people of the Lord and prepare them for trouble ahead. It’s so easy in life, to approach large problems, maybe like global warming, as not a great concern personally, because it won’t cause too much trouble in our lifetime. Future generations can deal with that. But We all need to be responsible for what we can do to better our succeeding generations
