Meditation
Placeholder for the November 10 meditation … to be updated as soon as possible.
Today I’m thankful for electricity. Our society is so technological. We depend on electrical power for so many things — lights, heating, the ability to prepare food, the ability to work, the ability to stay connected with distant friends and family, and more. At my new job, we’ve already had two separate power outages in the past week. There’s nothing like suddenly not having power to remind you of how central electricity is! During this pandemic, I’ve been especially grateful for technology and the ability we have to connect and stay connected through tools like Zoom. But that technology runs on power. And I’m grateful for the power that enables us to keep functioning and keep connecting. Even as I’m thankful for electricity, I can’t help but think of it as a metaphor for God — the One who truly gives us abilities, power, grace, and connection. Hallelujah!
What a priviledge it is to have electricity available. Our culture relies on it so heavily, and stresses out when it is not available. I for one become greatly agitated if I cannot use my hairdryer!! It is a major threat to us now if it is disrupted regularly, as it has been in certain areas. In the end it is just that – a priviledge which we are expected to use wisely. I am grateful that thanks to this energy source, the Word of God has spread to even more areas of the world and as you say – we can stay connected as Christians in creative ways. I believe St. Paul must have something to do with this 🙂
“He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. ” colossians 1:17. The verse sounds like Jesus is the glue that holds us, the Church, together. And literally that is true. His sacrificial blood does bind His children together, ordained before time began, as God’s Plan B, to offer us redemption.
