I find it surprising that Athaliah, a woman, was able to take over, after Ahaziah’s death, and that the people accepted a female ruler. I would guess she was a puppet queen, and that those who conducted business under her, must have approved of allowing baal worship, and freedom to follow their own agendas. Although, there have been other prominent female leaders, such as Deborah, not much is said in scripture about what led common people, or even leaders, to support a woman’s leadership, given that women were routinely treated as 2nd class citizens.
