Meditation

Placeholder for the November 11 meditation … to be updated as soon as possible.

I’m thankful for veterans and for all those who have served in our military forces to protect our nation. I’m also thankful for those who currently serve in the military, as well as those serving in police and fire departments across the country. Most of these individuals are nameless to me, although some were from my own family (my father served). But I think of the many who died in service and others who were wounded and I’m grateful. I live in ease and comfort and freedom. Sometimes I take that for granted, but when I stop to think about it I know the debt I owe to all those who served and sacrificed for the good of their countries. My gratitude and thanks go out to all of them. Happy Veterans’ Day!

  • As some of us are also engaged in the Tuesday Bible study that examines one’s calling – today is a reminder as you say Kirsty of those who have answered the call to serve our country and protect our freedoms througout our history. I have a number of family members who responded to this call in the armed services as well as policing. The call was very clear to them in each case, and molded their lives in a positive way. I share your respect and admiration for those who make this commitment and sacrifice so that the rest of us can enjoy the amazing freedom we have – which includes freedom of worship and openly professing our love of one God, His son Jesus Christ, and the Bible – which I am determined to read in full!

  • Psalm 131 says we should be content, a seemingly innocuous statement, but I realize I’m often not content. Many times during the day I will wish something were happening quicker or would last longer, it would be easier or is boring, it would be louder or is too loud, etc. It seems I naturally see the downside of things, rather than the upside. Lord, help me to be content, trusting Your plan; not wasting energy wishing for things to be different, or perfect in my view, but trusting Your way.
