The Bible has so many verses about the poor and the rich. Most refer to integrity and giving aid to the poor, but many also to working and not being lazy or foolish. This morning, snow blankets the ground, and my neglected garden looks pure and clean. Unlike God’s forgiveness, the snow simply covers whatever dirt and mess is underneath. I’m thankful God’s forgiveness is stronger than bleach, dissolving sin better than acid, leaving us sweeter that lavender and roses, and pure as His love.

Reading in Nehemiah, it occurred to me that the Jewish leaders must have routinely let decades pass without communally reading the law. As I go thru scripture, I highlight verses about the rich and the poor. It is amazing how many there are. Wealth can give people a false sense of security and less need to depend on God. The poor may be so, for many reasons. Some day I’d like to do a comprehensive study on what God say on the rich and the poor.

Again, in Zechariah, so much prophecy, and in the Hebrews verses, we see references of prophecy fulfilled. The Bible is not 1 volume of many books. It is one story, told by different people, during different times, and from different places and perspectives.

So much prophecy in Zechariah! One reason greatly supporting the truth and credibility of the scriptures is that prophecy of the Messiah is found in many OT books, written by different authors. Yet they are all fulfilled in Jesus.

The story, in John 21, of Jesus preparing breakfast for the disciples, has always been one of my favorites. Partly that is because I love the sea. But it is also the the image of our Lord, newly risen, Conqueror of death, the Messiah Who was slain, still choosing to serve His disciples. How precious a breakfast that must have been.

So much h of s ripture seemes reititous. It o curs to me that it is partly as every generation has to learn the same lessons, every person must choose God, each of us has sin nature to tebell and put our own desires first. Even as believers, we go thru cycles of submission and rebellion. History repeats itself and God is our only hope for redemption.

It’s interesting that yesterday I commented on the slaves bringing their father with them, from Africa, and today’s verses from II Chronicles mention Libya and Ethiopia coming in contact with the Israelites. I too love the mountains, and being able to see them, in any direction, as well as the sea, many lakes and rivers. We are blessed here. May I seek God humbly, and call upon Him with the heart of a lowly servant, for He is my King. Blessed am I, that He not only acknowledges me, but does so as His child.

Psalm 104:26 references the ships of the see and then Leviathan, which God made to play in it. I have seen whales, porpoises and seal lions follow ships and seemingly play around them. Psalm 138 says when we call on the Lord, He strengthens our souls; when we walk through trouble, He preserves our lives. He doesn’t necessarily take the trouble away, as we usually want, but he enables us to endure them. This increases our faith and reliance on Him, and teaches us to depend on Him every step of the way.

“He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. ” colossians 1:17. The verse sounds like Jesus is the glue that holds us, the Church, together. And literally that is true. His sacrificial blood does bind His children together, ordained before time began, as God’s Plan B, to offer us redemption.
